What is candle curing?

I’ve had this question a lot, as most people don’t even know that curing a candle is a thing. Honestly, I had no idea about this either until I became a candle maker. So lets get right down to it, what is candle curing?

When a candle is made, it takes time for the wax to completely cool and bind with the essential oil. Most candles take about twenty four hours to be completely cool and ready to go. The process of curing a candle is to let it sit for a set amount of time. Curing a candle allows the wax to continue to harden, to bond with the essential oils that have been mixed into it, and allow them to be disbursed throughout the candle. This will allow the best scent throw possible.

Candles are like a fine wine, the longer they sit, the better they are. Since my candles are made out of natural soy wax, I always advise customers to let them cure for a minimum of a week if they are a freshly made candle. You don’t have to let your candle cure if you don’t want to, but the end results are better if you do!

It can be hard to let your new candle sit when you are dying to test it out. I promise though, it’s worth the wait.
